Giallo Veneziano Granite

Giallo Veneziano is one of our most popular granites, because it goes so well with a many woods due to its varying gold and brown color.

Where Does Giallo Veneziano Come From?

Giallo Veneziano is a granite from the mountains of Brazil and is an orthogeneisses rock, which means Giallo Veneziano is metamorphized lightly-colored magma under high pressure.

Other types of granite formation create different types of granite through different types of rocks or way of formation, such as Paradiso (migmatites, slight melting of gneisses), Santa Cecila (garnet gneisses, richer in garnet).

What Cabinet Colors Go Well With Giallo Veneziano?

Shaker Cherry

The gold color is a nice contrast, while the browns in the granite complement the cherry, which exemplifies its natural wood by not making it a flat color.
• Birch The brown in our Birch Cabinets complement the brown in the granite
• Honey Maple
• Natural Maple
Canadian Maple
The gold color in this granite complements the maple tone of these cabinets
American Red Oak American Red Oak is between the gold and the brown in the cabinet, adding extra color into your kitchen

could you please share with me the differents in color, I lookes at some Giallo Veneziano 12×12 granite tiles and they were peach in color. Every thing I read on you web and others the color is a golden color. What is it PEACH or GOLDEN??

    Hey Debbie,

Giallo Veneziano is yellow with brown. You might be looking at Giallo Florito, which is slightly peach with brown.

Can you tell me what goes good as a backsplash for giallo Veneziano

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

If you’re not going the full backsplash route, I’d recommend a four inch Giallo Veneziano backsplash. When I design, I choose a wall color that is a different color than the cabinets and complements the floor choice.

Some designers like to use tile, so if you’re going that route, try not to pick one that draws too much attention (such as overtly bright or outstanding designs).

looking for the perfect color tile backsplash to go with giallo veneziano granite countertop

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Hi Denise,

The perfect color tile backsplash depends on your cabinet choice and decor of the room.

Sometimes people like the tiles to emphasize the different colors in the Giallo Veneziano, such as the yellows or the browns. It’s your cabinets and the subtle complements in your kitchen that make a tile “perfect.”

I suggest searching for samples of a range you would like and match them up to your countertop. As a starting point, try thinking about possible complementing the browns or the yellow: these can be highlights in the tile, instead of the tile itself.

I hope your tile search goes well!

User 4″ * 4″ travertine chirallo travertine, u will find it in any home depot store, looks great with the GV granite. If you have a small 3 ft slab left over use that for the backsplash behind the stove and the rest of the area use the travertine, I am doing this for my kitchen, will post some pictures once its done.

What color/style backspash goes with Giallo Ornamental granite? We have dark cherry (red mahogany) cabinets and neutral paint color on the walls.

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Gina,

Most of my customers opt to use one of the following as their backsplashes:

    * 4 inch backsplash of the *same* granite
    * Full backsplash (backsplash up to the bottom of the wall cabinets)
    * Tile

I would recommend you use a 4 inch backsplash, because it seems like you wish you show off your paint.

I’m trying to find wall color and floor tile color to compliment giallo Veneziano granite countertops with honey maple cabinets…

    Please help!!!

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Gennifer,

Many of my customers choose to complement their floors tiles with their countertop.

Since your cabinets are close to the shade of the Honey Maple cabinets, I recommend floor tiles that are a shade darker than your granite countertops. This gives a flow from your floor to the ceiling.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to reply if you have any more questions.

LIONEL, WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PURCHASING NEW KITCHEN CABINETS. PROBABLY THE COFFEE GLAZED MAPLE CABINETS. I HAVE THREE QUESTIONS: FIRST: HOW CAN I TELL IF WOOD ON CABINET IS NOT PARTICLE WOOD. SECOND: WHAT GRANITE COUNTER WOULD BEST LOOK WITH THESE CABINETS AND WHAT BACKSPLASH ADVICE YOU HAVE TO ACCOMODATE I.E. COLOR, STYLE.. MY KITCHEN IS YELLOW BUT NOT BRIGHT WITH NEUTRAL FLOOR TILES. THIRD: MY KITCHEN IS SMALL I BELIEVE ITS 10X10 IS IT WORTH GETTING GRANITE FOR SUCH SMALL COUNTERS? ITS PROBABLY LESS THAN 30 SQ FT. I PERSONALLY THINK IT IS. PLEASE HELP AS WE WILL BE MAKING DECISIONS THIS WEEKEND. THANK YOU!

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Hi Edwin,

Congratulations on your upcoming purchase! I hope my following answer will help you.

    1. There are two major types of wood used in kitchen cabinets: particle board, and plywood.

Plywood looks like several sheets of paper stacked on each other, see image.

Particle board is chopped wood put together. See image.

    2. Giallo Veneziano looks great with your cabinets, but they’re on the more expensive side of granite countertops. I recommend going with lighter countertops, since a darker countertop would do better in a kitchen with more lighting.

    3. Granite makes a huge impact on your kitchen. Not only are granite countertops easy to maintain and look great, they also increase the value of your home. At http://www.elegantcab.com/are-you-getting-the-most-out-of-your-kitchen-remodel/, I wrote about how kitchen remodels give the best bang out of your buck for return on investment.

Edwin, I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me!

I am remodeling a kitchen. I am thinking of using Kraftmaid cabinets in the maple honeyspice with a mocha finish. Would you recommend using Giallo Veneziano granite with this cabinet combination. I also want ot use stainless appliances. I will also be putting in wood floors. If you think the cabinet color and granite choice is okay then what color wood floor would you use. It will not be real hardwood. Probably a laminate like pergo or wilson art. I havent decided which brand to go with. I have not bought the cabinets or counter tops. I am still in the looking phase. I really do like the cabinet color maple wood with the honey spice mocha finish color. But I need a granite that will really make it pop. I was hoping the one I mentioned in this e-mail will work. I am installing prada gold granite countertops (looks like flowing sand) on all four sides of my kitchen, with pecan quakermaid cabinets above. Rather than a backsplash, I am looking to run tile up to the cabinets. Will Giallo Veneziano wall tiles be a good match, or will they overwhelm the countertops and make the room too showy?

  • Mannie

    Hello!
Just picked my cabinets and want to use the Giallo Veneziano Granite. The Cabinets are a Hickory (Spice). What do you think?

  • Laurie

I have oak cabinets and giallo venezino countertops. I am having a difficult time finding a color for the back splash. Any recommendations?

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Hi Laurie,

Check out the kitchen at http://www.elegantcab.com/cherry-cabinets-with-giallo-veneziano-countertops/

It has Cherry cabinets with a full backsplash of Giallo Veneziano. Depending on your kitchen layout, it could go great with your oak cabinets!

If you’re not interested in a full backsplash, I recommend finding a shade between oak and your flooring. This will give a nice transition between the oak and granite.

I am having a hard time with my granite. i hve cherry cabents and giallo ornamental granite what color tile would look good and should i tile from the counter up to cabents or use granite all the way to the cabents . I have a red oak floor. PLEASE HELP I am going crazy. Thank You

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Donna,

For a smaller/open kitchen and living room, I recommend going with a lighter tile to match the Giallo granite.

The contrast between the lighter floor (which will match your granite), and the red oak floors give a solid separation between your rooms.

I have a small kitchen with a peninsula. I have giallo veneziano granite countertops, honey oak cabinets and I just purchased a new dishwasher in white. My refrigerator is almond and the range is black with white trim. I wanted the white dishwasher because I was afraid of black appliances making the kitchen too dark but I think I should have gone with the black. My tile floors are cream. I will need a new refrig soon and I don’t want to make any more mistakes.

  • http://atlanticneurosurgical.com Maryann Gomez

Why is it so hard to coordinate backsplash, counter top granite, and cabinet colors? One would think that this is easy but I am findiing that I have spent more time tryng to pick these colors than I spent on picking out names for my children!!!!!!!!!!! It is unbelievable and really starting to tick me off. It should be simple.
I have shaker type maple cabinets. I want my color combinations to be earthy…….browns and creams. I do not want a ceramic tile floor……I want linoleum and everyone is yelling at me! Linoleum is not as hard on the feet, things do not break into a thousand little chips when you drop them and linoleum is not cold! Further, to me it just seems more durable and easier to clean. So having said this……………any idea’s for a combination color scheme?

  • peter yu

    Hi,

I am currently putting in new cabinets (beech – mid orange look) and was curious as to whether if we should go with a dark granite (black galaxy, absolute black) or a lighter granite, can you please recommend us something on that? Also, as far as the backsplash is concerned, is it ideal to use a full granite flush or 6inch granite and tile up the wall? What is more common in a 350 sq ft. kitchen?

As far as the peninsula our concerned, our size consists of a 3 x 5 with cabinets on the inner side of it, do most folks put cabinets on all sides of the island or just one side like us? As far as the granite size for the peninsula, do folks generally let it hang out by an additional 2-3 feet?

Thank you Lionel for your time :)

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Peter,

    What color are your floors?

I recommend to my clients a complementary scheme between the granite and the floors and to use a full backsplash.

The full backsplash is great because the cost delta between wall tiles and granite is generally less than 5% of your kitchen, and returns a more refined look.

    Regarding the peninsula:
    * It is perfectly normal to have cabinets on one side.
    * The peninsula usually hangs out by an extra 12 inches.

Thanks for visiting and best wishes,
    Lionel Young

  • peter yu

The color of my floors is like a very light coffee, between brown and manila i would say, very close to your Golden King color. Aside from the black galaxy I really like another color, but I cant seem to find it anywhere (the name of it) and I went to a few different places and was unable to find it. It looks much like your Santa Cecilia, but much lighter on towards the orangey side of it.

    Thanks again for your time.

  • peter yu

Also, where can i find something, my wife is looking for a different kind of look for the backsplash area right above the stovetop? I am having a hard time finding anything on that regard, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • Fran

We will have a cherry island and ivory cream cabinets in main kitchen–would this granite work in both spaces? Any other suggestions? Floors are red oak,

    Thanks!

  • Stella

    Hi,
I have a galley kitchen with oak cabinets and I am putting Giallo veneziano granite tile and hickory flooring. What’s a good choice for a full backsplash or is it better just getting a 3-4 inch giallo veneziano backsplash?
    Thanks for your input Lionel

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Hi Fran,

Giallo Veneziano would definitely work in both spaces because you can either use it to complement or contrast your cabinets.

Since you have red oak cabinets, the Giallo Veneziano would go better with your Cherry Island to break up the red colors of the oak and cherry.

    Best wishes,
    Lionel Young

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Stella,

With the dropping cost of granite, I recommend to all my clients to go with a full backsplash.

A 3-4in backsplash leaves you several questions:
    * What color do you paint the wall?
    * Are you going to use tile to cover the wall?

Remember, to meet building code, you must use a full backsplash for your stove, whether it be tile or granite.

  • Mrs. Cosby

Hi, I am buying a new house and I have to pick my flooring tomorrow for the whole house, but I have a problem… In the kitchen I have Maple Cabinets with Giallo Veneziano (pinkish color) in it and I don’t know what type of floor I should get to make it perfect in there. Can someone help me?

Also should I only do the kitchen or the kitchen and the living room the same floor?

    PLEASE HELP!

    Thanks!

    Mrs. Cosby

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Mrs. Cosby,

I see you’re going for a flooring for both the kitchen and the rest of the room.

I often recommend using ceramic for the kitchen, with a hardwood transition to hardwood in the rest of the house. The reason for this is because two different floors breaks up a large open space, and separates your kitchen from the rest of your house.

Hi, I am going to remodel my kitchen with cherry wood cabinets and colonial treasure granite counter tops including backsplash. All appliances are white. Please help me chose a floor tile that would make my kitchen the envy of all.

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Zorayda,

Those sound like beautiful choices! Have you looked into ceramic tiles or hardwood floors?

If you choose ceramic, then a complementary color to your granite would go very well. If you choose hardwood floors, you can choose a darker wood to contrast the white cabinets.

    Best wishes,

  • Dimarco

    Hi,
We have antique white cabinets with giallo ven. granite tops and black appliances. What color paint and backsplash do you recommend. Also, do you recommend ss appliances?

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Dear Dimarco,

Do you already have a 4-inch backsplash? If so, find a light paint color that complements your floors. Otherwise, I’d recommend using a full backsplash.

Stainless steel appliances are very popular with modern kitchens, but I wouldn’t replace your appliances unless you’re looking for an upgrade anyway, because the contrast from black appliances goes very well with white cabinets.

    Best wishes,
    Lionel

  • Sorven

    Hi Lionel,
We have med/dark “amber” stained birch cabinets, new GV counter tops, and red oak floors. Our GV granite is much lighter than most, pretty much white in places where others show brown or cinnamon coloration. We haven’t put on a back splash yet because we want to do something that brings out a little more warmth than the “cool” counter tops. Our appliances are a mix of stainless & white. Any suggestions for full back splash?

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Hi Sorven,

From what you’re saying, it looks like you don’t want to use Giallo Veneziano for your full backsplash, and want to find something that brings out more warmth compared to Giallo Veneziano.

I recommend staying away from dark countertops (such as Black Galaxy or Tan Brown), because you will have too much complimentary colors with your dark amber birch cabinets.

Your best bet is to go with a countertop that is between your floors and your countertops, but make it two or three shades closer to your countertops.

    Best wishes,
    Lionel Young

I have a tiled floor that has mostly gold & tan tones. My cabinets are a lightly glazed creme paint. Is the general “rule” to tie the color of your tile floor in with your granite top? I am torn between 2 granite colors. One has the tones of my floor (Giallo Veneziano) but I also like the more conservative Giallo Ornamental – but am afraid to get that because there are no golds in there, just cream and darker brown. The ornamental looks great with the cabinets, but again is different from the floor. My only reservation about the Veneziano is it does tend to look “peachy” more than gold sometimes – and it has black splotches vs. the brown. Wow – I never knew picking a granite color would be so stressful! What do you think?

I have Giallo countertops with 4″ backsplash.but want to finish wall under cabinets with tile over existing drywall. I really don’t want to remove the 4″ Giallo to get the full wall look mainly because I would end up never using the 4″ again in another place. Or does it look better with tile all the way down to countertop? Is it OK, design wise, to leave the 4″ and tile up the remaining wall. And would Chiaro tumbled subway tiles look good with Antique White cabinets and Brazilian cherry floors with the GV?

  • Tara

    Hi-
We are doing our kitchen over by having our cabinets painted a creamy white color and by having giallo ornamental granite installed. Currently we have a vinyl floor in there but will be replacing it with laminate wood look. We do not want to spend alot of money since this will probably be a 5 year home and our neighborhood doesnt support much more. We are using the original cabinets since they are in good condition. We will be purchasing stainless appliances. The stove has a flat black cooktop on it and the fridge has gray sides on it. We are not sure if we should go with brushed nickel cabinet hardware or oil rubbed bronze. We did have 2 new light fixtures installed recently which are both ORB.I am thinking that the Brushed nickel pulls will look better though due to the SS appliances but am not sure since the granite has a brownish to it. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, I just had the giallo veneziano granite installed in my kitchen. I have Harvest Maple cabinets with bronze faucets and it looks great. My only concern is that the surface of the granite is not as smooth as I thought it would be. It is rough in some spots with pits. Is this normal and OK?? Or am I correct in being concerned.

Please help ease my concerns so I know how to proceed.

    Thanks for your help,

Should the Giallo Veneziano granite be smooth without pits ? Or is it okay to have some pits ?

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

Hi Pat, granite is natural and there are going to be some rougher parts in some areas. If, however, you have 20% of the area excessively pitted, then you have a problem

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

Hi tara, that sounds good. Your floors will complement the granite, and the brushed nickel/SS adds a modern feel

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

Hi Eberto, I recommend a shade between your floor colors and the granite. Alternatively, I personally prefer a full backslash

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

It\’s completely ok to have a 4\”backslash with tile

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

Hi barbara, if you want to keep the room light, then you should go with a lighter tile. However, if you have enough light, then I recommend a full backslash

Any problems with RADON with GIALLO VENEZIANO Granite? I hear it is from Brazil, but I read that some come from China?

  • http://elegantcab.com Lionel Young

Hi Michael, most studies show that the radon levels are well below what would cause any health concerns.

For example, a normal person absorbs radiation from everyday normal activities, such as walking down a street.

These “scare sites” are just trying to generate traffic.

Currently remodeling my kitchen…and will be installing new cabinets (shaker style, spicy maple) with giallo veneziano granite countertop and full backsplash. My contractor recommended to “granitize” the wall up to the ceiling where the canopy hood will be mounted. This idea frightens me. Granite is a heavy stone that a mild temblor will probably make the granite come tumbling down. I live in earthquake country (calif). My question: how do you secure the granite on the wall? I look forward to your response. Thank you.

  • http://www.elegantcab.com Lionel Young

    Hi Rhodora,

This is called a “full backsplash.” The granite is secured with high strength epoxy adhesive, so you have no concerns.

Check out the full backsplash gallery here: http://www.elegantcab.com/view/gallery/

Hello, I’ve just bought a home that has antique white (more yellow tones) with black granite counter. We’re replacing floor with tiles. Any recommendations on colors?

  • Anonymous

I recommend choosing a darker shade than your walls, because it provides a nice contrast with your countertops. If you’d like to complement your countertops, you want a shade in between your cabinets and countertops.

  • sw

Hi, I will have the GV granite, maple cognac cabinets, and gunstock hardwood floors. Will this look too orange/peachy? And what would you suggest for paint colors for now. I plan to do backsplash later.

  • Anonymous

    Hi sw,

The color choice seems fine if you’re trying to brighten up your kitchen. If you have enough lighting, I recommend a darker floor.

I recommend a lighter shade between white and Giallo Veneziano for your paint (I assume you will have a 4″ backsplash of GV)

We are in the exact same boat. Looking at Armstrong Alterna Tiles in Antique Gold (Tuscan Path) or same tile in a slate look chocolate brown/gray Chocolate (Mesa Stone).

    Dark or light….????

  • Anonymous

    Hi Silverfarm and Ileney54,

Since you mentioned stainless steel appliances, I assume you’re going for a modern look. Most of my clients, when considering a modern look, will choose to complement their cabinets with their countertop. In this case: dark countertop, and a lighter shade of cabinet (not Maple or White cabinets)

    Hope that helps,

Thanks so much for replying!!! In the last 2 weeks we have decided to turn all around in the kitchen. I’m getting new cabinet doors, and painting the boxes. I’m now going to have antique white cabinets, but think I’m still going with the giallo veneziano for the countertops. My biggest problem with the cabinets, is that they . weren’t one color, they were medium brown, with an almost black glaze in one area, with a lot of black coming thru the entire cabinet. Initially I was afraid of painting because of chipping, which is being eliminated by replacing the doors. Cost wize too, it’s less this way then paiting the cabinet doors. Now my problem is more centered on the backsplash…any suggestions!!

  • Ileney54

I have made a complete turn around in my kitchen, I’m replacing cabinet doors, and painting the rest of the old oak cabinets antique white, still paln on using Giallo Veneziano for countertops (really do love the color). Thinking of going with a light sandstone (suggestions wanted)I like the shadings of the stone, not sure if I should do in railroad tracks, or diamond shape. Also not a clue as to what I should do for the floor, I have oak floors in almost all the rooms, but it was the original oak floors of my 1950 house I had sanded, I’m afraid if I put in new oak floors they will look completely different then the floors I have already. Do you think I should stain the floors dark, or go with a completely different wood/perego type floor that looks like wood?

Thanks so much for any and all help….I really think I’m going nuts from my kitchen.

    Hi Ileney54,

If you’re going to have different floor types, I recommend ceramic. If the transition between the two floor types is too similar (e.g. hardwood then pergo, or a different wood), the subtle clash is *uncomfortable*.

However, going with ceramic gives the kitchen a solid voice with “Yes, I’m the heart of the house and individual.”

Again, these recommendations assume your kitchen has adequate lighting and is not exposed to the rest of the house (such as in L-shaped kitchens that directly view the living room)

    Best wishes,
    Lionel

  • Ileney54

Lionel, thanks for your advice. My Kitchen is in the middle of the house, has 4 entrances to other rooms, but not an L shape. I’m just so confused, but think your advice is good and I agree with you about the wood not blending and just being to much. The hallway has wood, as does the dinning room, which both have entrances into the kitchen, my den has white carpeting, and the laundry room will have the same floor as the kitchen. My kitchen has a skylight, so it is a bright kitchen, and I’m installing under counter lights, which will add to the high hats, and fixture I’m purchasing To add to my confusion, my husband asked me to reconsider blue pearl tonight, which is the color he likes best. Duhhh….I have decided on a straight edge cut to sandstone 4×4 tile for the back splash, I think it has a nice look and even though it has the natural variations in color it isn’t so different that it bothers me. Your honest opinion, it’s black, or blue pearl a hard look for the kitchen, I want a soft look, and think that his idea is nice, but hard looking.
    Thanks,

Hi Ileney54, blue pearl when well-lit isn’t actually very dark. The “pearl” variations reflect quite a bit of light.

Since your backsplash will have more interesting variations, a more subdued countertop (such as Absolute Black) will give more attention to your cabinets.

Hi Lionel, Thanks again for getting back to me! I’m back to the GV, went to the yard and fround a beautiful slab that has no orange in it, and very warm with brown and golds. I’m thinking of going with a travetine tile, not sure if I will use subway, or 4×4 on the diamond. Would like to do something simple over the cooktop, but have no idea what to use. When looking at floor tiles, I saw a bamboo floor that was the deepest color of my oak floors. Do you think that would look nice? As I look for floor tiles, I realized how much I prefer wood, thought bamboo would not look out of place, do you agree?
    Thanks,

Hi Ileney, as long as you’re not trying to match it exactly, you should be fine. Perhaps also look into changing the orientation (such as diagonally)

We ordered GV and contractor changed to Giallo Ornamental. Are these the same or very different?

    Hi MK,

These are different granites, but they are similar. Giallo Veneziano has more yellow tone and larger features, whereas Giallo Ornamental is more speckled and paler.

Hi I have bleached oak cabinets with pink rather than a yellow look, very light colored tile floor with taupes and grays. Would the Giallo Ornamental or the Giallo Veneziano be better and what would you suggest for the backsplash?
    Thanks you.

    Hi Rfloto,

Giallo Veneziano has more yellow than Giallo Ornamental. You’ve pointed out that your cabinets are more pink than yellow, and your have very light tiles. If your kitchen is not well-lit, then I would recommend the Giallo Ornamental to make the kitchen brighter.

However, if your kitchen is well-lit, I recomend Giallo Veneziano to add more warmth to your kitchen.

Would celadon or surf green glass subway tiles for a backsplash look good
    With giallo venenecia granite?

Do you mean ceramic tiles? If so, then you have a lot more freedom.

If you mean a full backsplash, then the green and yellow colors may clash, depending on your cabinet and flooring tile choice.

We are thinking of refacing our white cabinets with chocolate cabinets, will Giallo Neneziano granite work with this color combination?

Yes, Giallo Veneziano works very well with darker cabinets, because the gold/yellow will brightens the countertop but won’t overpower the set.
